The Green Man: Songs Around an Image
The program for March 21, 2015, featured songs that draw on the image of the Green Man, the face formed of foliage, or spouting foliage, found mostly sculpted as a part of church architecture, that is commonly seen as a symbol of nature, of fertility, of death and rebirth, or else as an archetype of our oneness with life.
Two sources for more understanding, if you are interested, are the Web site The Enigma of the Green Man, which considers all the likely meanings, and a book by William Anderson, Green Man: The Archetype of Our Oneness with the Earth, which sees a single underlying theme in the Green Man and other cultural phenomena.
